Quick answer
How do you do a calculation with the online calculator?
Type your calculation on your keyboard or with the keys: the result appears live and the order of operations is respected (brackets, powers, multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction). For example, 2 + 3 × 4 gives 14, while (2 + 3) × 4 gives 20. The % key divides by 100, so 200 × 15% = 30.
| Calculation | Result |
|---|---|
| 2 + 3 × 4 | 14 |
| (2 + 3) × 4 | 20 |
| 200 × 15% | 30 |
| √144 | 12 |
| 2^10 | 1,024 |
About the Online Calculator
What is it?
This free online calculator combines a basic calculator and a scientific calculator in your browser. It works on desktop and on your phone, with nothing to install and no sign-up. The result appears live as you type your calculation.
Why use it?
It helps whenever you don't have a calculator at hand: adding up groceries, splitting a bill, working out a percentage or checking homework. Scientific mode adds square root, powers, logarithms and trigonometric functions. Every calculation can be shared with a simple link.
How does it work?
The calculator follows the order of operations: parentheses, powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. For example 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 and (2 + 3) × 4 = 20. The % sign divides the number before it by 100 (50% = 0.5), and sin, cos and tan take angles in degrees. Results are rounded to 12 significant digits to avoid floating point noise (0.1 + 0.2 shows 0.3).
Usage tips
- Use your keyboard: digits, + - * /, Enter to confirm, Escape to clear, and a comma or dot as the decimal separator.
- For 20% of 80, type 80 × 20%: the result is 16.
- Click a calculation in the history to reload and edit it.
- Missing closing parentheses are added automatically at the end, so √(16 gives 4.
- Dividing by zero or taking the square root of a negative number shows an error message instead of a wrong result.
