Quick answer

How do you convert a JPG to PNG?

Drop your JPG photo into the converter: it is saved again as PNG in your browser, then you download the file. Example: a 2 MB holiday.jpg becomes holiday.png, with the same quality but around 8 to 12 MB, because PNG compresses without loss. Converting does not restore details lost by the JPG.

About the JPG to PNG Converter

What is it?

The JPG to PNG converter turns your JPG (or JPEG) photos into PNG files, a lossless format. You can convert up to 20 images at once and get them one by one or in a ZIP.

Why use it?

PNG is the right format for an image you are going to edit several times: every JPG save degrades the picture a little, while a PNG stays identical. It is also the format you need to cut out an object and give it a transparent background, and some software and websites only accept PNG.

How does it work?

Each photo is decoded in your browser, then saved again as PNG, pixel for pixel. PNG does not recompress the image: it keeps exactly the quality of the original JPG. Note that converting does not bring back details already lost to JPG compression, and the resulting file is usually 3 to 10 times larger. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Usage tips

  • Convert to PNG before editing a photo, then export to JPG only once at the end
  • PNG does not make a blurry photo sharper: always start from the best quality file
  • For a photo on a website, keep the JPG or switch to WebP, both much lighter
  • The background of a JPG stays opaque after conversion: you then need to cut it out in an editor to make it transparent
  • To shrink a PNG that is too heavy, use the image compressor
