Quick answer
How do you convert a HEIC photo to JPG?
Drop your .heic file into the converter, keep JPG selected, then download the image. For example, IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.jpg, which opens on Windows, Android and every website. The conversion runs in your browser, without uploading your photos.
| HEIC | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Size of an iPhone photo (12 MP) | About 1.5 to 2.5 MB | About 3 to 5 MB |
| Opens on Windows | Extension needed | Yes |
| Upload to websites and forms | Often rejected | Accepted everywhere |
| iPhone default format | Yes (since iOS 11) | "Most Compatible" option |
About the HEIC to JPG Converter
What is it?
The HEIC to JPG converter turns photos taken with an iPhone or iPad (HEIC or HEIF format) into JPG, PNG or WebP. You can convert up to 20 photos at once and download them all in a ZIP.
Why use it?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC, a very efficient format that is poorly supported: Windows without a paid extension, many websites, official forms and apps can't open it. JPG opens everywhere.
How does it work?
Safari reads HEIC natively. In other browsers, the tool loads a libheif decoder (WebAssembly, about 3 MB) only when you drop a photo. The image is decoded and re-encoded in the chosen format directly on your device: nothing is uploaded to a server.
Usage tips
- Choose JPG to send photos by email or upload them to a website: it is the most compatible format
- A quality of 85 to 92% keeps the photo sharp while staying light
- To avoid HEIC in the future: Settings > Camera > Formats > "Most Compatible" on the iPhone
- When transferring photos to a computer, the iPhone can also convert them automatically (Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > Automatic)
- The first conversion takes a few seconds while the decoder loads: the next ones are faster
