Quick answer
How do you convert centimetres to inches?
Divide the value in centimetres by 2.54, because 1 inch is exactly 2.54 cm; for the reverse, multiply the inches by 2.54. Example: 30 cm ÷ 2.54 ≈ 11.81 inches. The same idea works for other units: 1 kg ≈ 2.2 pounds, and °F = °C × 9/5 + 32.
| Unit | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| 1 inch (in) | 2.54 cm |
| 1 foot (ft) | 30.48 cm |
| 1 mile (mi) | 1.609344 km |
| 1 pound (lb) | 0.45359237 kg |
| 1 ounce (oz) | 28.35 g |
| 1 US gallon | 3.785 l |
| 0 °C | 32 °F |
About the Unit converter
What is it?
This unit converter turns a measurement from one unit into another across six categories: length, mass, temperature, volume, area and speed. It covers both metric and imperial or US units (inches, feet, pounds, gallons, miles...) and shows the value in every unit of the category.
Why use it?
Recipes, screen sizes, body weight, weather forecasts: different unit systems are everywhere, and mental conversions lead to mistakes. The tool gives you a reliable result instantly, plus a full table to compare units at a glance.
How does it work?
Each unit is converted through a reference unit (meter, gram, milliliter, square meter, meter per second) using official definitions: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 pound = 453.59237 g, 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 l. Temperature is not a simple factor: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. Results are rounded to 6 significant digits.
Usage tips
- Watch out for US vs UK measures: a US gallon (3.785 l) is smaller than an imperial gallon, and a UK pint is about 568 ml.
- In US recipes, one cup is about 237 ml and one tablespoon about 14.8 ml.
- A change of 10 °C equals a change of 18 °F, but 10 °C is 50 °F, not 18 °F.
- 1 hectare = 10,000 m², which is about 2.47 acres.
- The knot (1,852 meters per hour) is the standard speed unit at sea and in aviation.
