Quick answer
How do you calculate the number of days until a date?
Count the days left in the current month, add the days of each full month in between, then add the target day number. Example: from 16 October to 25 December there are 15 days (rest of October) + 30 (November) + 25 (December) = 70 days. In a leap year, add 1 day if 29 February falls in the range.
| From 1 January (non-leap year) to | Number of days |
|---|---|
| 14 February (Valentine's Day) | 44 |
| 21 June (summer) | 171 |
| 25 December (Christmas) | 358 |
| 1 January next year (New Year) | 365 |
About the Countdown
What is it?
The countdown shows the time left until a date in real time: days, hours, minutes and seconds. Pick a common event (Christmas, New Year, Valentine's Day, start of summer) or enter your own date, with an optional time and name.
Why use it?
Knowing how many days are left helps you plan: holiday shopping, a wedding, a trip or an exam. The shareable link also lets you send the countdown to friends and family, event name included.
How does it work?
The tool measures the gap between your device's current time and the target date, taken at local midnight when no time is set. Whole days are counted on the calendar, then the rest is split into hours (3,600 seconds), minutes and seconds. Yearly events automatically move to their next occurrence.
Usage tips
- Summer here starts on 21 June by convention: depending on the year, the astronomical solstice falls on 20 or 21 June
- Add an exact time for a departure or a launch, otherwise the countdown targets midnight
- Name your event before sharing the link: it shows up as "D-X until ..."
- The countdown follows your device's clock: check that it is correct if the result looks off
- To count the days between two past dates, use the date difference calculator instead
