In France, Whit Monday is still a public holiday, but many companies often use it as the "solidarity day", so it may be a working day. Check with your employer.

Quick answer
What are the public holidays in France?
France has 11 national public holidays: 1 January, Easter Monday, 1 May, 8 May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, 14 July, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November and 25 December. Three dates move with Easter: Easter Monday = Easter + 1 day, Ascension = Easter + 39 days, Whit Monday = Easter + 50 days. Example: in 2027 Easter falls on 28 March, so Ascension Day is Thursday 6 May.
| Year | Easter Monday | Ascension Day | Whit Monday |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 6 April | 14 May | 25 May |
| 2027 | 29 March | 6 May | 17 May |
| 2028 | 17 April | 25 May | 5 June |
| 2029 | 2 April | 10 May | 21 May |
| 2030 | 22 April | 30 May | 10 June |
About the Public holidays
What is it?
This tool lists the public holidays of any year for France, Alsace-Moselle and Spain's national holidays. For each holiday you see the full date, the day of the week and whether a bridge day is possible.
Why use it?
Knowing public holidays in advance helps you book time off, plan a team schedule or anticipate delivery delays. A holiday on a Tuesday or Thursday often allows a long weekend with a single day off, while one falling on a Saturday or Sunday usually gives no extra rest day.
How does it work?
Fixed-date holidays (1 January, 1 May, 8 May, 14 July, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November, 25 December in France) are placed directly. Movable feasts depend on Easter Sunday, computed with the Meeus-Jones-Butcher algorithm: Easter Monday = Easter + 1 day, Ascension Day = Easter + 39 days, Whit Monday = Easter + 50 days, Good Friday = Easter - 2 days. That is why these dates change every year.
Usage tips
- A holiday on a Thursday or Tuesday: taking just the Friday or Monday off gives you a 4-day weekend.
- In France, Whit Monday is often the "solidarity day" in companies and may be worked: check with your employer.
- In Alsace-Moselle, Good Friday and 26 December are holidays on top of the 11 national ones.
- In Spain, regions and towns add their own holidays to the national list: check your local calendar.
