Working Days Calculator - Business days between two dates

Add working days to a date

The start date is not counted. Weekends and public holidays of the selected country are skipped. A negative number goes back in time.

How to use this calculator?

1. Enter the start date and the end date of the period.
2. Choose the public holiday calendar (France, Alsace-Moselle or Spain).
3. Choose whether the end date is included and whether Saturdays count as working days.
4. Read the number of working days and the list of excluded holidays, or add working days to a date below.

Quick answer

How many working days are there between two dates?

Take the calendar days in the period, subtract Saturdays and Sundays, then subtract public holidays falling Monday to Friday. Example: 1 to 31 May 2026 in France gives 31 days - 10 weekend days - 4 holidays (1 May, 8 May, Ascension on the 14th, Whit Monday on the 25th) = 17 working days. Counting Saturdays too, the result is 22.

About the Working days calculator

What is it?

This calculator counts the working days between two dates, meaning Monday to Friday days that are not public holidays. It can also count Monday to Saturday (the French "jours ouvrables" concept, used in French labour law for some leave and notice calculations), always minus public holidays.

Why use it?

Delivery times, notice periods, project schedules or day-rate invoicing are usually expressed in working days, not calendar days. Counting by hand means checking every weekend and finding movable holidays such as Easter Monday or Ascension Day, which is easy to get wrong.

How does it work?

The tool walks through each day of the period in UTC, so daylight saving changes have no effect. Working days = calendar days - Saturdays and Sundays - public holidays falling on weekdays. With Saturdays counted, only Sundays and holidays falling Monday to Saturday are removed. Movable holidays are derived from each year's Easter date.

Usage tips

  • A public holiday falling on a weekend does not reduce the number of working days.
  • In Alsace-Moselle, Good Friday and St Stephen's Day (26 December) are added to France's 11 national holidays.
  • Use the "Add working days to a date" section for deadlines such as "delivery within 10 business days".
  • For Spain, only the national holidays common to every region are included: add regional and local holidays yourself.
  • Uncheck "Include the end date" when the last day of the period is not worked, for example a departure day.
