How to use this calculator?

1. Choose the vehicle type: fuel (petrol, diesel, LPG) or electric
2. Enter the distance, tick return trip if needed, then the consumption and the price per litre or kWh
3. Add tolls and parking, and the number of people to split the costs
4. Read the total cost, each person's share and the cost per kilometre, then share the link with your passengers

Quick answer

How do you calculate the fuel cost of a trip?

Multiply the distance by the consumption, divide by 100 to get litres, then multiply by the price per litre. For example, 465 km at 6.5 L/100 km = 30.2 L; at €1.80/L the trip costs €54.41 in fuel, which is €18.14 each for three people.

Distance (6.5 L/100 km, €1.80/L)FuelCost
100 km6.5 L€11.70
300 km19.5 L€35.10
500 km32.5 L€58.50

About the Fuel Cost Calculator

What is it?

This calculator estimates what a car journey costs: amount of fuel or electricity, fuel or charging cost, tolls and parking, total cost and cost per kilometre. It also splits the total between passengers, ideal for car sharing.

Why use it?

Before a holiday, a weekend away or a daily commute, knowing your fuel budget avoids bad surprises. When car sharing, it lets you agree on a fair contribution for everyone.

How does it work?

Quantity = distance × consumption ÷ 100. Energy cost = quantity × price per litre (or per kWh). Total cost = energy cost + tolls and parking. For a return trip the distance is doubled; the tolls you enter are the total for the journey. Each person's share is the total cost divided by the number of people.

Usage tips

  • Your real consumption is shown by the trip computer, and is often higher than the official figure
  • On the motorway at 130 km/h, expect 1 to 2 L/100 km more than at 110 km/h
  • Fuel prices change every week: enter the price shown at the pump
  • For an electric car, fast charging on the motorway often costs 2 to 3 times more than charging at home
  • Share the link with your passengers: the calculation opens with the same figures
